Each year the National Film Registry may add up to 25 films to the National Film Registry, part of the Library of Congress, for preservation. Which films made the cut in 2014?

When I first stumbled across this list of films I was immediately taken aback by 'The Big Lebowski' making this list. I have a distinctly bad memory of watching this film with my first college boyfriend while he was laughing hysterically the entire time, and I was looking at him dumbfounded and bemused.

As I scrolled further down the list I began to see films that did appear to fulfill what I had read about the purpose of preservation. The National Film Registry seeks films that are at least ten years old and, "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films... showcasing the range and diversity of American film heritage to increase awareness for its preservation."

Here are the films to be added in 2014:

Bert Williams Lime Kiln Club Field Day (1913)

Felicia (1965)

Moon Breath Beat (1980)

V-E +1 (1945)

From this list I have only seen four films, I'm happy to see that three of them made the cut this year, and I fully intended to nominate a few choice films of my own for 2015's consideration. Which have I seen?

The Big Lebowski - Two thumbs down. This could be due to the fact that I've never smoked weed.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - I have loved this film since I was a kid, and I'm currently singing the Oompa Loompa song in my head.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Classic. Love it, and own it. "Life moves pretty fast if you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it."

Luxo, Jr. - The beginning of the genius of Pixar. You may recognize the lamp from their opening credits in subsequent films.
