Cooler weather is here and that means it’s time to winterize your vehicle. Here are five tips to make your car ready for cold weather driving.

    1. During the first cold snap of the year, many vehicles will experience battery problems. Fortunately, that’s also the time when many batteries go on sale. If your battery is 3 to 5 years old, you may need to replace it soon. It’s also a good idea to clean the corrosion from your battery cables and clamps.
    2. Make sure your radiator has the right amount of antifreeze.
    3. Check your belts and hoses, if they show where or cracking replace them.
    4. Don’t wait until you’re running on fumes to fill up and make sure you keep a few gallons in the tank. Water from condensation or leaking tanks can find its way into your gas tank. If you don’t keep enough gasoline in your tank, that water can find its way to your fuel lines and when it freezes it can cause major damage.
    5. Make sure your tires have the correct operating pressure.
    6. Finally, make sure that you have a first aid kit in your car that includes a flashlight, tools necessary to make minor repairs and emergency blankets.

Doing the little things now will save you big headaches later.
