Although eight seasons seems like a fairly round number to end a series on, FOX isn't going to put 'Bones' in the dirt just yet. The long-running forensic procedural has officially been announced to continue on for a ninth season after the current year, but will it be the last for Booth and Bones? FOX stopped short of announcing their specific plans, but we'll tell you what we think inside!

'Bones' fans can rest assured, a baby won't mark the swan song for your favorite forensic investigators and FBI agents. Speaking from the ongoing Television Critics Association press tour, today FOX announced that the David Boreanaz/Emily Deschanel-fronted series would indeed continue on to season 9, exceeding that of one of FOX's previous flagships 'House.'

“After more than 150 episodes, 'Bones' continues to be one of television’s most dynamic and consistent dramas,” Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said in a statement. “We at Fox, along with millions of zealous fans, look forward to seeing where the incredible creative team takes the series next season.”

Of course, FOX won't actually say if the ninth outing for the 'Bones' team would be the last, but it seems likely given the show's longevity. In 2012, series creator Hart Hanson expressed the likelihood 'Bones' could return for a ninth season, saying, “In many ways, 'Bones' is FOX’s most successful hour-long scripted drama, so I’m very confident we’ll be back.” Depending on the network's fall 2014 crop of original series, it may not opt for further years of 'Bones' beyond season 9.
