NewsWest 9 is Reporting that The Midland Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for placing a card reading device at a local ATM.

MPD was notified of a “skimming” device found attached to an ATM on Friday, March 13 at Frost Bank located at 4101 N. Midland Dr. A skimming device reads and stores information from debit and credit card magnetic strips when a customer inserts their card to the ATM. A small camera was also placed above the keyboard to record customers entering their personal identification numbers, or PIN, during a transaction. The device is able to retrieve customers' debit or credit card information, the name of the card holder and the PIN associated with the card.

Surveillance video from the ATM shows the suspect placing the device on the machine at approximately 6:30 a.m. on the same day authorities were alerted. He is described as a male, possibly in his early twenties, who stands between 5'8” to 5'11” tall with a skinny build and a thin beard. He also has a scar on the left side of his head. The suspect is heard on surveillance speaking in a language other than English or Spanish. The suspect's race is unknown; however, he may be from Eastern Europe, Romania or Russia. At one point, surveillance shows the suspect driving a green, light blue, or turquoise colored Dodge Caravan. The vehicle has a noticeable cracked windshield on the passenger side.

It is unknown at this time how many customers may have had their information compromised. Citizens who used the ATM at this location are advised to monitor their accounts and to notify their financial institutions of any unauthorized transactions.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact MPD at 432-685-7108 or Midland Crime Stoppers at 432-694-TIPS. The investigation continues.
