Turns out the old West Texas saying, "Don't put out new plants until the mesquite buses bud out, that's how you know that we'll not have another freeze..." was proved out again this weekend.

Last week, West Texas was experiencing Spring-like temperatures in the upper 80's, until this weekend's cold front blew through, dropping our temps down to the upper 20's this morning.

If you are putting out new plants, but don't pay attention to the mesquite bushes, a another good judge of 'when' is after Passover. Passover begins at sundown this evening, so my bet would be we're safe from another freeze after tomorrow. Of course, the mesquite haven't budded out yet, so plant at your own risk!

What is the date you traditionally put out new yard plants?
