May 12-18, 2013 has been designated National Police Memorial Week and is meant to recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement.

On May 15, members of the Odessa Police Department, Ector County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies will be holding a memorial service to honor fellow officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The service begins at 10:00AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home Chapel Room. The Odessa Fraternal Order of Police will conduct a short memorial service for 12 officers who lost their lives during the past year in Texas.

Local officers who have given their lives who also be remembered during the memorial. The seven officers are: Sheriff Deputy Thad West, Corporal Gordon “G.T.” Toal, Officer Scott Stanton Smith, Corporal Arlie “Lee” Jones, Corporal John Scott Gardner, Corporal Abel Marquez and Lubbock Officer Rodney Kendricks.
