Additional Information

There will be a free pool safety class for you just in time for summer.

Midland Health and Senior Services is hosting it at 10:00AM on May 23 at their office at 3303 W. Illinois Avenue.

It’s designed to help families get ready for a safe and active summer in the water. Research shows learning to swim is an important skill to prevent drowning and provides a great exercise for children and teenagers.

Some water safety tips include:

  • Make sure all family members know how to swim.
  • Always wear a lifejacket when boating in lakes and rivers.
  • It’s best to swim only in designated areas with lifeguards. If that’s not possible, wear a lifejacket.
  • Be especially careful when swimming, boating, tubing, or rafting in rivers due to dangers from currents.  The best decision may be not to enter the water.
  • Have infants and children wear a life jacket when they are in or near open water.
  • Supervise children and teens when they are in or near all types of water.

To sign up for the safety class, call Midland Health and Senior Services at 681-7613.
