Earlier today the TV community was rocked by the news that while AMC had officially renewed ‘The Walking Dead‘ for a fourth season, show-runner Glen Mazzara would resign from his post. Mazzara’s departure marks the second show-runner shift for ‘The Walking Dead’ amid a host of other AMC showrunner conflicts, and now ‘Sons of Anarchy‘ creator Kurt Sutter has publicly attacked AMC over the debacle. The conflict heats up inside!

Considering ‘The Walking Dead’s explosive success both creatively and commercially in its third season, many were left scratching their heads why series show-runner Glen Mazzara would depart the series for the upcoming fourth season. Mazzara is far from the first show-runner difficulty AMC has experienced, and ‘Sons of Anarchy’ head Kurt Sutter has apparently had enough.

The often-outspoken producer took to his blog to slam AMC over Mazzara’s loss, issuing some strongly inflammatory words.

AMC is run by small-minded, bottom-line thinkers who have no appreciation or gratitude for the effort of it’s creative personnel. Time and time again we see events like what happened today with Glen Mazzara. They continue to disrespect writers, s–t on their audience and bury their network. Mazzara took the work-in-progress that was “Walking Dead” and turned it into a viable TV show with a future. Without him, that future is dim. Showrunners are not development executives, we’re not cookiecutter d—–bags that you plug into a preexisting model. TWD will suffer. Even Zombies need consistency. “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” will be gone soon. So will AMC. I hope their f—ing stock takes a dive and the shareholders line up Sapan, Dolan and Collier and shit in their open hands. C–ts.

Sutter and Mazzara previously worked together writing and producing FX’s ‘The Shield’ along with now-cancelled ‘Last Resort’ show-runner Shawn Ryan, who also voiced his outrage over the situation via Twitter. “Common knowledge that AMC cut ‘Breaking Badshorter than it should have been. Now you have creative differences w/ biggest hit’s savior?,” questions Ryan. “With FX, Showtime, HBO, Starz, Cinemax, A&E, TNT and others to sell to, it’s a real question now why good show runners should sell to AMC?”

While Sutter himself has often caught flack for being hot-tempered and irresponsible with his blog, there’s no denying that AMC has had repeated issues with its creative talent. Not only did ‘Walking Dead’s original show-runner Frank Darabont depart the series prior to the second season, but ‘Mad Men‘ creator Matthew Weiner and ‘Breaking Bad‘ creator Vince Gilligan have had numerous public difficulties with the network, despite the acclaim of their respective series.

Most recently, ‘Hell on Wheels‘ third season was put in jeopardy when showrunner Josh Shiban and co-creators/executive producers Joe and Tony Gayton all departed the series, leading John Wirth (‘Falling Skies‘) to step in.

What say you? Has ‘Sons of Anarchy’s Kurt Sutter gone too far in slamming AMC for Glen Mazzara leaving ‘The Walking Dead?’ What do you think is really going on behind the scenes at AMC? Tell us your thoughts on the recent shake-up in the comments!
