Kylie Minogue is channeling pedestrian life, literally and figuratively, in her new video for ‘I Was Gonna Cancel.’

The second single off of the Australian singer’s latest studio album, ‘Kiss Me Once,’ is a disco-pop song written and produced by Pharrell Williams. While Pharrell’s touch is obvious in the electric beats reminiscent of ‘Get Lucky,’ Kylie’s unmistakable voice is what makes the song fun and brings the funk to life.

The 45-year-old tames the track a little with her simple video concept. Stationed in the center of the set, Kylie is surrounded by lines of pedestrians dressed in bland colors while they walk in front and behind her in every direction. At times it seems like she’s in control of the crowd, while at others she seems detached and untouched by the mesmerizing movement around her.

Kylie explained of the video, “It’s an abstract look at pedestrian life and how we're all just trying to get through and rise above everyday challenges. Although the song talks about a real life event that happened the day I recorded the song with Pharrell, the video has a more conceptual approach and I love how surreal it looks.”

The former 'The Voice' judge is referring to the time she was scheduled to work with Pharrell but nearly cancelled because she was having a bad day. She forced herself to attend the commitment, and shared a few words (and tears) with Pharrell. He was inspired, and there you have it — ‘I Was Gonna Cancel’ was born.

“I found myself almost directing traffic,” Kylie added, “and it made me think about how we’re all just trying to negotiate our way through day-to-day life.”

The video is certainly no ‘Sexercize,’ but it’s an interesting concept that Kylie has clearly put thought into.
