While Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' fans continually await an explanation for Agent Coulson's dramatic return, it seems recent episode "FZZT" left a few fans in the dark about another character who may, or may not have experienced a similar far-death experience. Is Melinda May a Life Model Decoy too? Find out what the producers have to  say!

The moment in question took place toward the end of "FZZT," in which Coulson admitted to fellow agent Melinda May (Ming-Na) that something felt distinctly off about his well-being after returning from the apparent dead. May responded that she too had endured a similar experience, saying “You know how long it's taken me to," before trailing off, leading some viewers to believe the character had also died, and been brought back to life.

TVGuide reached out to producer Maurissa Tancharoen, who clarified May's comments about her past:

That is a misinterpretation. They were just connecting on an emotional level about being scared by a traumatic experience. You come back from a trauma like that changed and all you can do is move forward. It's nice that they have that moment together because you feel the history of their friendship and you feel that, even though their relationship may be different now because she is a different person, there is a still a nice grounded touchstone that they have with each other.

So, fair enough. We'll presumably learn more about Melinda May's history and stoicism going forward, along with the eventual revelation of Coulson's own mysterious past.
