Football season is upon us, so last night I got back in the spirit by watching my favorite football film, the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, Pony Excess.

I saw this film for the first time nearly four years ago by accident, and I was immediately drawn in. While I sat visiting a friend, ESPN happened to be on while we were chatting at the kitchen table, and the words SMU football caught my attention. Why?

Growing up, I had no idea that SMU had a football team. That's just how devastating the 'Death Penalty' was to the program. I had even considered applying to SMU while in high school, and had no notion that they were once a powerhouse collegiate football program.

This documentary opened up my eyes to the greed and ruthless recruiting practices of college football. It's a fascinating watch no matter which team you are you pulling for this fall.
