It was the Summer of 1969 and I was in a vacation bible class at St Luke’s Methodist Church. We had gathered around a small black and white TV to watch Neil Armstrong take his first steps onto the moon. Though I was just a child back then, I watched a lot of TV and was aware of our space race with the U.S.S.R. and what this meant to the country and the world that we, the US, had landed a man there first. That day everything stopped as the first man set foot on the lunar surface. The far away world that we had all seen in the night sky, was now close up and personal as Neil nervously stepped off the ladder of the lander and bounded onto the powdery, grey soil leaving tracks that would last forever on the surface and in the history of mankind. God speed Neil and thank you.   Watch a photo slideshow of Neil Armstrong from History.com Watch Neil Armstong as the first man on the moon: http://youtu.be/dgllSrCo7Fg
