1. Measure twice, cut once
  2. A sharp rotary blade is essential. Be sure to change the blade at the slightest hint of dullness. Change a nicked blade immediately.
  3. 45mm blade is a good all purpose blade. Use 60mm blade for multiple layers. Use 18mm or 28mm for curves and extra control.
  4. Its best to cut away from your body, standing. You lose perspective and control while sitting.
  5. Some marking pens have wax in them, some do not. Removing marks from finished fabric is often done with a hot iron. be sure NOT to use a hot iron with wax, it will set the mark.
  6. Always start a project with a new needle, it will save time and money.
  7. Use soft foam or plastic pencil grips on metal turns on embroidery hoops. It makes it faster and easier to hoop with less stress or pressure.
  8. Use painters or scotch tape to tape fabric, with design template centered and pinned in place, to the inner hoop. A small piece of tape on all sides of inner hoop and fabric, allows inner hoop, with fabric and design template, to be picked up and placed in outer hoop with little or no movement.
  9. Always hoop so that the screw or tightening edge is last edge inserted, keeping the inside hoop nearest the screw. Then slide the hoop off the edge or your table or work surface, so the hoop can be tightened without raising the hoop from a flat surface.
