'Terminator 5,' which has the subtitle 'Genesis,' is going to have the sticky problem of trying to reboot the franchise to start a new trilogy, while also interweaving material from the original four films (though likely it will stick closer to the first film, with nods to some of the sequels) on top of bringing back Arnold Schwarzenegger in some capacity. To help provide the duct tape to make this possible, the film is looking to recruit J.K. Simmons to play a very important role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Simmons would play an alcoholic detective, who's been following the case of Sarah Connor and the robots who try to kill her since 1984 (the year the first film was released). As this new film's Sarah Connor is played by Emilia Clarke (who's currently 26) and her son John Connor is played by Jason Clarke (no relation, who's 44), and Simmons has been following this case for thirty years, well, that opens so many possible time traveling doors, we don't know which one to knock on.

But this also makes it sound exciting if they are embracing the chaos of time travel, perhaps invoking the parallel realities that have happened in films like 'Back to the Future II' and 'Primer.' 'Terminator: Genesis' is scheduled to hit theaters July 1, 2015
