My wife and I love to watch Westerns, but I especially love the Western-Comedies. Here is a list of the ‘must-see’ movies of the genre. I think it’s only right to begin with what I consider the greatest western-comedy-satire movie of all time, Mel Brooks’ 1974 classic, Blazing Saddles.

This movie was so in the face with social commentary, people didn’t know how to take it. To me, it is Brooks’ greatest achievement. It stared comic genius Gene Wilder who previous hits included Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Sex, But Were Afraid To Ask, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Producers. Ten months later he would star in another Brooks classic, Young Frankenstein. It also featured the perfect pairing for Wilder, Clevon Little, Mod Squad, All In The Family and Vanishing Point.

Their nemesis in the film was played by another famous comedian, Harvey Korman from the Carol Burnett Show.

Blazing Saddles also featured iconic western character actors, Slim Pickens, John Hillerman (Magnum PI), George Furth and Liam Dunn.
