It was a close call for a vintage jet plane at Midland International Airport this morning.

UPDATE 3:30PM: The Collins Foundation which is the reported owner of the Me 262 says the rear canopy of the plane was not properly secured and blew off the plane during takeoff. According to a release by the company, the pilot aborted the takeoff and the plane never left the ground. No one was injured and the plane had no damage other than some superficial damage to the canopy and a scratch and fuselage.

According to the City of Midland, Midland Police and Fire Departments were called around 11:00AM and found that a Messerschmidt Me 262 had crashed. Thankfully, neither one of the two people on board were hurt.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and will investigate.
