UPDATE: The next launch window is scheduled for this Sunday

Tomorrow, October 9th, Felix Baumgartner will break the speed of sound. The crazy thing is, he won’t be doing it in a plane. If everything goes as planned tomorrow, Felix will have set the record for the highest skydiving mission in history!

Redbull is famous for sponsoring extreme sports and this is about as extreme as you can get: Felix will be jumping from a capsule attached to a large helium filled balloon 23 miles above Roswell, New Mexico. The ascent to 120,000 feet is expected to take three hours. Once he jumps from the capsule, he will quickly accelerate faster than the speed of sound because of the low density of air near the edge of space.

The skydive is expected to take 10 minutes, half of that is freefall!

Redbull’s livestream of the jump will start at 6:45am our time Tuesday morning.
