What Mid-60′s to Early 70′s Movies Should Be ‘Must Watch’ for the Younger Generations? – [VIDEO]

If you could pick a science fiction movie that shaped you as a kid that you wanted to share with the younger generation, what would it be?

The 60′s and early 70′s were a turbulent time in America and in the world, Viet Nam, Watergate, pollution, racial tension, the threat of nuclear annihilation hung over our heads. The movies we made during those years reflected that unease and sometime fear and hopelessness.

When I asked friends what movies from that time they would like their kids to see, there were some I hadn’t remembered, but must be included:

Soylent Green (1972)

Charlton HestonEdward G. RobinsonLeigh Taylor-Young star: In an overpopulated futuristic Earth, a New York police detective finds himself marked for murder by government agents when he gets too close to a bizarre state secret involving the origins of a revolutionary and needed new foodstuff.

Westworld (1973)

Michael Crichton wrote and directed Yul BrynnerRichard BenjaminJames Brolin  in this futuristic brave new world where automatons are the new form of entertainment, catering to every guest’s fantasy….until something goes wrong.

Logan’s Run (1976)

Michael York as Logan, lives in an idyllic sci-fi future has one major drawback: life must end at 30. His job is to run down the ‘runners’ if they try to escape.

Planet of the Apes (1968)

An astronaut crew crash lands on a planet in the distant future where intelligent talking apes are the dominant species, and humans are the oppressed and enslaved.

Written by Michael Wilson (screenplay), and ‘The Twilight Zone”s Rod Serling (screenplay), the movies stars Charlton HestonRoddy McDowall, and Kim Hunter in the story of an astronaut crew that crash lands on a planet where intelligent talking apes are the dominant species, and humans are the oppressed and enslaved.

List the movies you would add to the list in the ‘comment’s’ section of this post!
